The Parenting Buzz: Disney Wants Your Eyeballs
Disney announced that it will be launching a website for parents: DisneyFamily.com and all parent eyeballs are invited to visit. This one-stop-shop for all things parenting will include “everything you need to know from the day your baby comes home from the hospital to the day your child goes off to college,” according to Paul Yanover, Vice-President of Disney Online.
This new site has been designed to provide parents with a variety of tools, including a specialized internet search, user-generated articles, contributions from “mommy bloggers” and a prefiltered list of smaller websites known as the “Family 1000.” A wiki-style “ParentPedia” is also in the works, and will consist of a compilation of information on thousands of parenting topics that can be expanded on by users.
Although Disney will market and promote its products and films on the new website, it will do so alongside similar products. The company expects to generate revenue from selling advertising and text ads which would accompany search results, rather than direct marketing as with its other websites.
This latest addition to the Disney family is being pitched as an informational website for parents, with user-driven content and a warm-and-fuzzy community feel – quite a departure for Disney, which is notorious for controlling absolutely everything related to its brand.
But still, one must always remember: Big Brother will be watching from the wings, monitoring every click of your mouse and every clack on your keyboard…who knows, perhaps your next comment will turn into the next Disney animated blockbuster or the next great ride at one of the theme parks!
The site, which is currently in beta stage, will go live Summer 2007.
