The Parenting Buzz : Discussions and Debates

There’s a great discussion brewing on the Wall Street Journal website today: Should Kids Get Jobs in High School? Sure, a part-time job would teach responsibility and respect for the Dollar, but does it detract from a highschooler’s chances of getting into college? Could that time be better spent resume-padding with say, a sport or extra-curricular activity? Some may argue that there’s no use getting into college if you can’t pay for it in the first place…Several high school and college students are chiming in – as well as parents – and the broad range of perspectives makes this discussion especially valuable.

Another debate is waiting to happen at the Debroff Debrief – Attention Hipster Parents, there’s a new breed in town: the Grup Parents. While the difference between a Hipster Parent and a Grup Parent is fuzzy at best, the negative connotations of being a Grup are clear…at least if you’re a Trekkie. Are you a hipster parent? Check out MetroDad’s clever quiz to determine your Hip Factor. Think you might be a Grup Parent? Check out the Debroff Debrief’s take and Say Hello to the Grups. Or perhaps you’re a bit of both, which would make you a…Grupster. Aaah, don’t you just love labels?
