The Parenting Buzz : Hipster Parents Unite at Offsprung
Call them what you will – Urban Parents, Hipster Parents, Grup Parents – they’re the new generation of parents and they’re here to stay. These folk have made a conscience decision (stroke of genius, perhaps?) to not get mired in the mind-numbing confines of Barney, Baby Einstein and the like. They are chic, hip, trendy folk who believe that having a child can dial up their “hip factor” not diminish it. Their children attend baby discos, wear alternate rock onesies and listen to lullabies set to heavy metal tunes.
Much discussion, debate and controversy surrounds this new ilk – are they suffering from a Peter Pan complex or simply brilliant for having found that delicate balance between “footloose and fancy free” and “settled down, responsible Parent”?
Either way, hipster parents are here and it doesn’t seem they’re going anywhere any time soon. In fact, they’ve banded together and launched a website. And not just any old website written by one heretic with a laptop, it’s an UberSite where a bunch of the juggernauts of the hipster parenting community (spearheaded by none other than Alternadad’s Neal Pollack himself) have banded together to share their news and views. The website, which launched earlier this week, is called Offsprung. It’s “an entirely craft-free online parenting magazine community for the modern age,” designed for “Parents Who Don’t Suck.”
Check it out. ‘Nuff said.
