The Parenting Buzz : Drea de Matteo’s Maternal Instincts Kick in Early

They say Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned…unless, of course, that woman is also a Mother, and she is protecting her brood. Now that is a force to be reckoned with!

Celebrities, it seems, are no exception.

Take Actress Drea de Matteo (Sopranos, Joey), for instance. The web was on fire yesterday with the rumor that Matteo was pregnant, after she was spotted perusing maternity wear at Veronique Maternity on Madison Avenue. Although not yet showing a “baby bump,” according to the buzz on the web, store “spies” overheard her say that she and her boyfriend of five years – country singer Shooter Jennings – are expecting their first child.

Today, Matteo issued a statement confirming her pregnancy. But she didn’t stop there: in proper protect-my-child-at-all-costs mode, Matteo’s press statement continued by slamming Veronique Maternity for leaking the news to the press. To quote:

…the only reason we’re announcing the news is because the rude and condescending salespeople at Veronique Maternity on Madison Avenue decided to leak this to the press, so please beware if you’re trying to keep your happy secret under wraps. Shop at Pea in the Pod. The salespeople are lovely and helpful and know how to keep exciting news to themselves.”

Matteo has reportedly dropped several thousands of dollars at Pea in the Pod since the leak.
